Spending a night away from home in a hotel is always fun – and when you only have to drive a few miles for the pleasure it is even nicer!
It was blowing a gale and snow was threatening to fall when we arrived at Dunston Hall on a Sunday evening in January.
But there was something rather pleasant about arriving on such a quiet night and the warm welcome we received more than made up for the bitter weather outside.
We’d been invited to experience the newly refurbished hotel for ourselves and were shown to a beautiful ground floor bedroom, which had recently been decorated and offered every comfort.
Dinner was served in the Brasserie just a short stroll away and this was also where a most magnificent breakfast spread (quite possibly the best we have ever had) was laid on for us the following morning.
People travel from across the country to make the most of everything Dunston Hall offers. Companies use its excellent conference facilities for their events, weddings of all kinds are hosted here and, of course, it is greatly enjoyed by those seeking a short break in Norwich.
As well as being close enough to the city to be a fantastic base for exploring everything Norwich has to offer, Dunston Hall is also known for its golf course and its leisure area.
This features a pool, gym, sauna and steam room, and has also recently been upgraded, making it a superb facility for its many members who live in the surrounding area, as well as visitors.
The Elizabethan-style former mansion house dates back to 1859 and embodies lots of history yet its friendly staff ensure it offers everything the modern day visitor requires for their stay.
Sadly, due to the wintry weather, we did not get to explore the grounds but we have promised ourselves a trip back the hotel later in the year to find out more about what Dunston Hall can offer visitors in the spring and summer.
